February 11, Fineko/abc.az. Tesla's newest battery factory in Shanghai, which will produce Megapack batteries, began manufacture production on Tuesday, February 11.
ABC.AZ informs that in addition to the huge existing electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Shanghai, the new plant will initially produce 10,000 Megapack units per year, equivalent to about 40 GWh of energy.
In early 2017, Tesla launched the world's largest backup energy storage facility at that time, using only lithium-ion batteries. The installation capacity was 20 MW, and the capacitance was 80 MW/h. In 2019, Megapack batteries replaced the 200 kWh Powerpack 2. The capacity of Megapack is 3 MWh with capacitanceof 1.5 MW.
The new plant is located next to the existing Tesla electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Lingan district. It will produce Megapack batteries for the domestic market and export. According to the company, each Megapack can power approximately 3,600 homes within an hour.
