Research: Those who trust AI tasks lose critical thinking skills

February 14, Fineko/abc.az. According to a new study conducted by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft (one of the main investors in OpenAI and ChatGPT), trusting artificial intelligence in everyday tasks leads people to "atrophy" critical thinking skills.

ABC.AZ reports that a group of researchers asked 319 "knowledge workers" to share three real-life examples of how they used AI tools at work, and to explain how critically they approached the results when performing these tasks.

Scientists have identified a clear pattern: the more people trusted AI, the less they used their own critical thinking. This trend was especially pronounced when performing simple tasks with low risks - people practically stopped checking and analyzing the results of AI work.
