February 17, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Government's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, is seeking access to sensitive information relating to personal identification numbers and banking data, including transactions and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collection documents, ABC.AZ informs, referring to The Washington Post’s sources.
The data includes detailed financial information about non-profit organizations, businesses, and every taxpayer in the country.
The request for DOGE's access to financial statistics has caused deep concern in the IRS, the paper informs.
Obtaining information from the service using the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS) is "extremely limited - taxpayers whose data has been improperly disclosed or even verified are legally entitled to monetary compensation", the paper says.
Musk was appointed to the post of head of DOGE by Trump's decision. Immediately after the inauguration of the American leader on January 20, the agency began a large-scale audit of US budget spending. In total, Musk expects to reduce country's government spending by $2 trillion. At the suggestion of Musk, activities of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) were suspended in order to further reorganize it.
