February 18, Fineko/abc.az. New animal protection rules for non-EU countries have been proposed to the European Commission by German Agriculture Minister Cem Ozdemir.
ABC.AZ informs that the minister presented to the European Commission an outline of a new national regulatory proposal that will allow the export of live animals only if a third country (outside the EU) commits to comply with certain animal welfare standards. This applies both to third countries, which are the destination of the animals, and to third countries through which the cargo travels on its way to its destination.
The proposal envisages creation of national regulation in Germany that makes the export of certain live animals to third countries dependent on a bilateral or multilateral agreement between Germany and third countries. In this agreement, the relevant third countries undertake to comply with certain animal welfare standards.
