March 4, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have discussed opportunities to expand agricultural trade at the first meeting of their joint working group on agriculture on March 4.

ABC.AZ reports, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture, that the meeting was held via videoconference and was attended by Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Agriculture, Yermek Kenzhekhanuly, and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Elchin Zeynalov.

“The sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The creation of this working group aims to enhance collaboration and identify specific areas for partnership. The parties discussed expanding agricultural trade between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. It was noted that in 2024, trade turnover in this sector increased by 5.6% compared to 2023, reaching $78.6 million,” the Ministry informs.

Additionally, Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports in 2024 totaled $64.2 million, accounting for 81.6% of the total trade volume. Grain shipments from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan via the Baku Grain Terminal reached 1.5 million tons.

“The parties also explored the prospects of supplying breeding livestock from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan. Participants expressed interest in seed exchange, ecological variety testing, participation in scientific conferences, and the development of joint educational programs, including dual-degree opportunities between agricultural universities in both countries,” the MoA added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further develop cooperation in agriculture, work out specific projects in detail, and implement the planned initiatives.
