March 12, Fineko/abc.az. The European Commission has announced the introduction of "rapid and proportionate" countermeasures in the amount of 26 billion euros on American imports to the EU in response to U.S.’ "new unjustified tariffs" on steel and aluminum imports from the European Union.

"Since the U.S. is applying tariffs for $28 billion, we are responding with countermeasures worth 26 billion euros. This corresponds to the economic scale of the US’ tariffs. Our countermeasures will be implemented in two stages. Starting on April 1 and fully coming into force on April 13," European Commission’s head Ursula von der Leyen explains.

"At the same time, the EU remains ready to work with the U.S. administration to find an agreed solution. The above-said measures may be lifted at any time if such a solution is found," the EC says in a communique.
