Food price index in Azerbaijan grew by 127.1 points

12:36 - 17.03.2025

March 17, Fineko/abc.az. This February, the food price index in Azerbaijan increased by 127.1 points.

ABC.AZ informs that according to the State Agency for Antimonopoly & Consumer Market Control (under the Presidential Administration), this is stated in the report of the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to the FAO report, this represents an increase of 1.6% versus January and 8.2% versus February 2024.

The main price spikes were observed for grain, vegetable oils, sugar and dairy products.

According to the report, the FAO grain price index in February amounted to 112.6 points, which is 0.7% more than in January. The main reasons include unfavorable harvest conditions in Russia and the U.S. and a decline in production in Argentina.

In February, prices for vegetable oils increased by 2% to 156 points.

According to FAO, this increase is linked with lower production in Southeast Asia and high demand from Indonesia's biodiesel industry.

Dairy products rose in price by 4% in February. In particular, there was a significant increase in prices for cheese and butter. Experts attribute this to a decline in milk production in Oceania.

Although sugar prices grew by 6.6% in February compared with January, there was a drop of 15.8% against February 2024. Declining production in India and weather conditions in Brazil are among the main factors contributing to this growth.
