In December 2024, the Arabica variety, preferred for making ground coffee, rose in price by 58% year-on-year. The price gap between the two varieties has significantly narrowed for the first time since the mid-1990s.

Brazil and Vietnam together produce almost 50% of the world's coffee. The price increase is influenced by lower exports from Vietnam, reduced production in Indonesia and unfavorable weather in Brazil.
