Rutube blocked in Uzbekistan

17:35 - 17.04.2025

April 17, Fineko/abc.az. Russian video hosting company Rutube has stopped working in Uzbekistan.

ABC.AZ reports that when trying to access the site, a notification about the blocking appears on the basis of a cabinet resolution of 2018. The document prescribes limiting the work of resources with content promoting violence, war, hostility and terrorism. Currently, the service is only available via VPN. The Uzbek authorities did not comment on the situation.

At the end of March, Rutube was blocked in Turkey. The country's Information Technology & Communications Department explained the restriction of access to the Russian video hosting service by saying that it could be used to "finance terrorism" in connection with advertisements for casinos and gambling, which are prohibited in the republic. Rutube itself also denied blocking at that time and explained the difficulties with access by "the specifics of the work of local providers".
