April 18, Fineko/abc.az. The Trump administration has announced massive tariffs on Chinese ships arriving at U.S.’ ports as part of a plan to revive American shipbuilding.

ABC.AZ informs that this decision is based on an investigation by the U.S. Trade Representative launched under Biden. It confirmed that China's policies create unfair advantages and restrict American trade.

According to the new policy, starting in October 2025, a fee of up to $140 per gross tonne for Chinese operators will be phased in. Vessels of other carriers built in China will pay up to $250 per container. The total fare can reach $1.5 million per flight, but not for each port, as previously proposed. Exemption from fees is possible when ordering a vessel built in the USA, provided it is delivered within three years.
