EU introduces new sanctions against Russia

May 7, Fineko/abc.az. The 17th package of EU sanctions will affect more than 20 new companies that help Russia circumvent existing restrictions.

ABC.AZ reports, citing the Financial Times (FT), that among them are firms from Vietnam, Serbia and Turkey.

In addition, the sanctions are to be extended to 60 legal entities and individuals from Russia and China. According to the publication, such proposals are contained in the draft of the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, which the European Commission handed over to representatives of the member states of the community.

In addition, it is planned to blacklist 149 oil tankers from the so-called shadow fleet, which is allegedly used to circumvent restrictions on the sale of Russian oil. In addition, the list of dual-use goods, the import of which is limited to Russia, may be expanded.

The article says that expansion of sanctions should become part of Brussels' policy to maintain pressure on Russia amid uncertainty in US policy on Russian and Ukrainian issues. The publication cites several European officials who noted that the new package would also be an opportunity to test Hungary's willingness to support the expansion of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation.
