Microsoft to lay off 6,000 employees

May 14, Fineko/abc.az. Microsoft will cut nearly 6,000 jobs worldwide in order to adapt to the new conditions in the technology market, ABC.AZ reports, referring to company’s representative.

"We continue to carry out organizational changes necessary for the best positioning of the company in terms of market dynamics," the agency quoted him as saying.

It is noted that of the 6,000 layoffs, 2,000 will be at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The cuts will primarily affect management. They are expected to begin in mid-July 2025.

In January 2023, Microsoft laid off 10,000 people. Periodic budget cuts and reorientation in the company related to changes in the technology market. The greatest costs currently fall on providing electricity to data centers necessary for development of artificial intelligence (AI). According to Satya Nadella, CEO of the company, AI allows you to perform tasks for which previously dismissed staff were responsible.

The company currently employs about 228,000 people. The cuts will make up 3% of the total number of employees.
