May 16, Fineko/abc.az. Trade unions of the U.S. agricultural industry have warned Congress about the risks to the country's food security after mass layoffs at the Ministry of Agriculture.
ABC.AZ informs that at the initiative of President Donald Trump, more than 15,000 employees were laid off, including specialists in avian flu and farmer support.
The cuts also affected the scientific staff - 98 out of 167 food safety experts were dismissed. The Ministry of Agriculture's financing was lowered by $4.5 billion, which, according to trade unions, weakened key services and made it more difficult to combat climate challenges and food risks.
