June 10, Fineko/abc.az. The United States and China will resume trade talks in London on Monday.
ABC.AZ reports, referring to Bloomberg, that the main goal of the U.S. is to restore the previous supply volumes of rare earth magnets needed for smartphones, electric vehicles and the defense industry.
The U.S. will be represented at the meeting by Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnick, who oversees restrictions on the export of advanced technologies. His presence may indicate White House's willingness to lift some restrictions, in particular regarding chips, software and components important to the Chinese industry, the newspaper writes. In turn, Beijing said it had approved several applications for the export of rare earth metals.
At the first talks in Geneva, the parties agreed on a truce: The U.S. lowered the base rate on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, and China from 125% to 10%. However, the truce ends in August, and if there is no progress, the stakes may return to previous levels.
