June 10 Fineko/abc.az. The World Bank has raised the poverty threshold from $2.15 to $3 per day per person, ABC.AZ informs, referring to the WB. The previous limit was set in 2022 based on purchasing power parity (PPP) data for 2017.

In 2022, purchasing power parity was replaced by PPP in 2017, and the poverty threshold was raised from $1.90 per day to $2.15. In 2015, the poverty threshold was changed from $1.25 per day to $1.90. It takes more than 100 years to solve global poverty problems. According to the WB, nearly 700 million people, or 8.5% of the total population, live below the extreme poverty line. Two thirds of them live in the Sahara in southern Africa, the report says.
