U.S. and China agree on rare earth metals - duties reduced

June 11, Fineko/abc.az. The United States and China reached a preliminary agreement on lifting export restrictions on rare earths and reducing mutual duties: the U.S. - from 145% to 30%, China - from 125% to 10%.

ABC.AZ informs that restrictions on the export of American microchips, software and equipment for nuclear power plants have also been partially lifted.

The agreement was the result of negotiations in London and a continuation of the Geneva Interim Pact. The document is to be signed by Donald Trump and Xi Jinping before August 10.

Despite the progress, disagreements remain over Taiwan, fentanyl, and economic policy. China still sees the U.S.’ tariffs as economic pressure, and the U.S. considers exports of rare earths as Beijing's leverage.
