Amazon's carbon emissions in 2024 increased first time in three years

July 17, Fineko/abc.az. In 2024, Amazon's carbon emissions increased by 6% and reached 68.25 million tons of CO2, As ABC.AZ informs, referring to company's sustainability report.

The indicator increased for the first time in three years. The increase in emissions is associated with the expansion of data centers and increased fuel consumption by delivery services.

Since 2019, when Amazon announced a goal to achieve zero emissions by 2040, its carbon footprint has grown by about a third. Power consumption grew by 1% due to the increased demand for computing power for artificial intelligence and servers.

The company, like other major IT companies - Microsoft, Meta and Google - invests in carbon-free energy sources, including nuclear, to reduce the impact on the climate.
