October 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars Railway (BTK) as the main freight transportation line between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey plays an important role in the regional transport system.

ABC.AZ informs that Azerbaijan Railways CJSC chairman Rovshan Rustamov made this statement during his speech at the panel discussion "Development of railway infrastructure in the Eurasian space" within the VII International Transport & Logistics Business Forum New Silk Way in Kazakhstan.

According to Rustamov, the BTK and the Zangezur corridor together will increase the transit opportunities of the region by creating a unified network supporting trade flows.

During the discussions, topics such as the Middle Corridor, integration of ports and railways, technological modernization and increased transit opportunities were touched upon.

Referring to the current figures of Russian Railways cargo transportation, Rustamov stressed that in 9 months of this year, 296 block trains were received from China along the Middle Corridor, including 113 transit trains, and noted that this figure significantly exceeds the figure for the same period last year (213 trains).

He drew attention to the fact that with the joining of the Baku port to the ADY in February of this year, the prospects for regional freight transportation have further expanded, and noted that this integration has reduced transit time and additional logistics costs, increased the speed and competitiveness of freight transportation.
