October 2, Fineko/abc.az. It is planned to send a block train from Georgian ports to Baku.

ABC.AZ informs with reference to Georgian Railways JSC that the train will travel via route Batumi-Poti-Tbilisi-Absheron-Sumgayit-Alat and operate according to pre-determined schedule.

In this regard, an agreement was signed with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC in Almaty. The route will connect the ports of the Black Sea with the major terminals of Azerbaijan.

The block train will provide cargo owners with a simplified "terminal to door" service and ensure transportation of containers from the port of Poti to Baku as soon as possible. Thus, cargo owners will know in advance exactly when the containers will be shipped and when they will arrive in Baku.

The company believes that the new service will allow empty containers to be transported from Poti to Baku and back by rail instead of by road, which will reduce the load on highways and minimize the negative impact on the environment.

"This is a simplified logistics service that will deliver containers from Batumi, Poti and Tbilisi to Baku and back on time and without delay. The new system will allow cargo owners to save time and additional costs. Our goal is to transport as much cargo as possible and increase revenue," said Lasha Abashidze, the general director of Georgian Railways.
