October 9, Fineko/abc.az. British researchers have created the world's first blood test to detect myalgic encephalomyelitis, a chronic fatigue syndrome.

ABC.AZ reports that diagnosis of this disease was carried out only on the basis of symptoms, which led to delays in diagnosis.

"Our discovery makes it possible to create a simple and accurate blood test to confirm the diagnosis," said Professor Dmitry Pshezhetsky from the University of East Anglia Medical School.

Together with Oxford Biodynamics, scientists investigated the features of DNA folding in 47 patients with severe CFS and 61 healthy people. Nevertheless, the test demonstrates sensitivity of 92% and specificity of 98%, which means  high probability of correctly identifying both positive and negative cases of the disease.
