October 13, Fineko/abc.az. Freight transportation along international transport corridor North–South grew by 8.3% in the first 9 months of the year against the 2024 same term.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev made this statement at a trilateral meeting of government representatives from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran held in Baku.

He pointed out that that this corridor plays an important role in development of trade and economic relations.

"Azerbaijan, being the only country with land borders with both Iran and Russia, occupies strategic position on the western section of North–South transport corridor. This geographical advantage allows Azerbaijan to play an important role in efficient operation of the corridor and development of transport links in the region," he said.

The Deputy PM noted that countries' joint activities are aimed at improving the efficiency of this corridor and expanding its transit capabilities: "The Baku Declaration, signed following the Baku trilateral meeting in September 2022, envisages an increase in cargo transportation via the corridor up to 15 million tons."
