October 13, Fineko/abc.az. In December 2023, a new road bridge and a border checkpoint on the Astarachay River were commissioned on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border. At that, construction of the Southern Cargo Terminal, which is an important component of international transport corridor North-South and owned by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, located in the Iranian city of Astara, is being completed.
ABC.AZ informs that Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev said this during his speech at a trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran in Baku on cooperation in the transport, energy and customs spheres.
He noted that Azerbaijan's brilliant victory in the Patriotic War in 2020 and the liberation of the occupied lands created a new geopolitical situation in the region and new opportunities in the transport and logistics sector.
"In this regard, according to the Memorandum of Intergovernmental Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Iran in 2022, the ongoing construction of highway bridge Agbend-Kyalala across the Araz River will become an important part of strategic transport infrastructure of the region. The construction of this bridge, which is an important component of the Araz Corridor, is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, and the construction, along with the relevant border and customs infrastructure, will be finished in the 1st quarter of next year. It is also planned to complete construction of the Goradiz–Agbend automobile and railway road next year," Mustafayev added.
