U.S. uses oil ‘quarantine’ as a tool of pressure on Venezuela

January 5, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. will apply an oil "quarantine" to put pressure upon the new leadership of Venezuela after the overthrow of Nicolas Maduro, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The goal is to sever Caracas' ties with Iran, Hezbollah and Cuba, stop drug trafficking and control the oil industry so that it does not benefit the opponents of the U.S.

The "quarantine" allows the seizure of vessels with sanctioned oil, which gives Washington a significant advantage for changes in Venezuela. Rubio is confident that Western companies will show interest in restoring the country's oil industry.

The oil industry has been called the key to restoring Venezuela's economy, but the "quarantine" will remain in place until conditions are met that meet the interests of the U.S. and the "better future of the Venezuelan people".
