Disney CEO discusses investments in China amid tensions with U.S.

January 9, Fineko/abc.az. Disney CEO Bob Iger met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang in Beijing amid ongoing tensions in U.S.-China relations.

ABC.AZ reports that a Chinese official urged the company to expand investments, which contrasts with Beijing's threats last year to restrict imports of Hollywood films in response to U.S. tariffs.

China remains a difficult market for American studios: on the one hand, it has a solvent urban audience and high potential for theme parks, on the other, it has strict quotas for foreign films. Currently, Hollywood's share in the Chinese box office is estimated at only 5%.

Despite this, Disney already operates Shanghai Disneyland Park, and Iger's visit has fueled rumors about the possible construction of a second park in the country. He added that the company is "fully confident in China's prospects" and intends to continue expanding.
