A woman becomes president in Bulgaria first time

January 26, Fineko/abc.az. For the first time in Bulgaria's history, a woman has assumed the duties of the country's president.

ABC.AZ informs that the powers of the head of state were passed to Vice-President Iliana Yotova after the voluntary resignation of President Rumen Radev. The relevant decision was approved by the Constitutional Court.

Iliana Yotova, 61, will serve as president until January 2027. Previously, she served two terms as vice president, and before that she was a member of the European Parliament.

The resignation of Rumen Radev was the first early resignation of the president in the last 33 years. The country is currently preparing for the next parliamentary elections amid a protracted political crisis and mass protests.
