February 16, Fineko/abc.az. The construction of a gas-fired thermal power plant in Nis will be the first major joint project of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Serbia, which is currently under intensive work.

ABC.AZ informs that Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Orkhan Zeynalov said this in an interview with Serbian weekly NIN.

He announced plans to create bilateral expert working groups: "One of the key issues of discussion will be the formation of price parameters for gas supplies for the planned gas-fired power plants."

At the same time, Zeynalov noted that SOCAR has wide portfolio of energy assets and is considering additional business and investment opportunities in Serbia.

He also stressed that the positions of the two countries largely coincide on energy transition issues.

"The transition to cleaner energy sources is not an easy task for states with strong traditions in traditional energy. We see opportunities to share knowledge, experience, and regulatory practices. In addition, we have specific plans for hydrogen production, which opens up additional prospects for future cooperation with Serbia," the deputy minister concluded.
