February 17, Fineko/abc.az. Reforms aimed at improving the business environment in Azerbaijan are ongoing, ABC.AZ reports, citing international insurer and asset management group Allianz Group.
It was noted that reforms in state-owned enterprise (SOE) governance, beneficial ownership transparency, and digitalization are positively contributing to this process.
However, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption indicators still lag behind similar countries in the region. These factors are assessed as key obstacles weakening foreign investment and private sector development.
It was also emphasized that the large share of the state in the economy and the low depth of financial markets constrain competition and innovation.
“Allianz” added that progress in renewable energy and infrastructure is noticeable. A number of wind and solar energy projects have reached the commissioning stage, and work on modernizing the electricity transmission network is ongoing. Nevertheless, environmental sustainability remains a challenge. In particular, indicators related to water resource management and recycling remain low.
“To ensure long-term competitiveness, sustained focus on green energy, regional connectivity, and human capital development is considered essential,” Allianz noted.
