February 18, Fineko/abc.az. The shares of Swiss company Nestle have fallen to their lowest level in the last 8 years amid a scandal involving the contamination of several batches of infant formula with harmful bacteria.
ABC.AZ informs, referring to Bloomberg, that compared to the peak value of 2022, stock prices decreased by 38%, while those of Nestle's main competitors Danone and Uniliver increased by 32% and 28%, respectively.
The agency notes that the scandal overlapped with the continued decline in sales of company's products and rising production costs. In particular, the products of the Putina, Nespresso and KitKat brands faced negative indicators.
As previously reported, Nestle announced the recall in 25 countries of several batches of baby food, including infant formulas SMA, BEBA and NAN, due to the possible presence of harmful bacteria and a toxin that causes nausea and vomiting.
At the same time, Nestle claims that so far no cases of infection or symptoms related to any of the recalled products have been confirmed.
