Georgian government tightens rules for issuing work permits to foreigners

February 23, Fineko/abc.az. The Georgian government has tightened the rules for issuing work permits to foreign citizens.

ABC.AZ informs that according to a new decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, annual quotas have been set for a number of areas, and a "zero quota" has been introduced for some types of activities.

The PM noted that the main purpose of the decision is to protect the interests of Georgian citizens, in particular, in the labor market. He added that the state must ensure the employment of its citizens and prevent their excessive competition.

Under the decree, foreigners will not be able to carry out activities in Georgia in the field of courier services, passenger transportation, as well as work as tourist guides, mountain, alpine and ski instructors.

The decision will take effect on March 1.
