February 26, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. is considering the possibility of developing mineral deposits in southern Venezuela, but a significant part of these territories is under the control of organized criminal groups, ABC.AZ informs, referring to The Wall Street Journal.

In the states of Bolivar and Amazonas, criminal structures not only extract resources on an industrial scale, but also perform the functions of local government, cooperating with the military. American companies are seeking access to these deposits from the U.S. authorities.

In addition to local gangs, Colombian armed groups, including former FARC members, have also established control over the mines. Of particular concern is the smuggling of gold and coltan across the border with Colombia, a strategic raw material for the production of electronics.
