The Spanish government has expressed confidence in the country's ability to mitigate possible economic consequences in the event of termination of trade relations with the U.S., El Pais reports. The authorities stressed that they have the resources to support vulnerable industries and diversify exports.
ABC.AZ informs that Madrid also noted that trade decisions are the responsibility of the entire European Union, so it will not be easy to completely sever economic ties.
Earlier, Spain refused to provide military bases for strikes against Iran, after which Donald Trump threatened the country with a trade blockade. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also opposed increasing dependence on the U.S. and increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP.
