Conflict in Middle East threatens food safety in Persian Gulf

March 6, Fineko/abc.az. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East is disrupting global trade flows. According to the German newspaper Heute, fresh food in Dubai is only enough for 10 days due to supply chain disruptions.

ABC.AZ reports that Stefan Paul, CEO of logistics company Kuhne+Nagel, notes the shortage of approximately 18% of world's aircraft capacity for cargo transportation. The problems affect both air and sea transport; in Europe, the consequences are still relatively small, while in the Persian Gulf countries the situation is much more acute.

Fresh products, such as vegetables and fruits, are particularly vulnerable, as the region imports 80-90% of its food, which poses a serious threat to food safety comparable to the crisis of 2007-2008.
