March 12, Fineko/abc.az. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has launched two new investigations into international trade following a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that weakened the previous tariff program.
ABC.AZ reports that the investigations are aimed at identifying unfair trade practices and excess production capacity among the largest US partners. According to trade representative Jamison Greer, the Article 301 measures could lead to new duties by the summer.
Potential restrictions could include China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, and Mexico. The investigation will also cover a number of other states. Among them are Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Switzerland and Norway. Canada, which is the second largest trading partner of the U.S., is not included in the list of countries under investigation.
At the same time, a separate investigation will be launched into the use of forced labor, which may lead to a ban on the import of goods from more than 60 countries.
