March 12, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan will receive transit revenue of $3 bn a year in the near future if 10-15% of cargo is transported through the Zangezur Corridor.
ABC.AZ reports that MP Vugar Bayramov said this during his speech at the opening ceremony of the XIII Global Baku Forum, when commenting on President Ilham Aliyev's idea of expanding the Middle Corridor after peace with Armenia and establishing direct communication with Nakhchivan.
According to Bayramov, after the start of the war between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, there has been an increase in regional geopolitical threats: "The new order in the region has further actualized the restoration of transport and economic ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia. One of the important points in two countries’ relations is commissioning of the Zangezur Corridor. The construction of the Trump Route for International Peace & Prosperity (TRIPP), which will become an element of the corridor, will allow the restoration of land transport between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan."
The MP stressed that the Zangezur Corridor, which will have capacity of 15 million tons, will make special contribution to development of the region: "The Zangezur Corridor, which will become an important segment of the Mediterranean Corridor in the near future, will not only serve to further strengthen Azerbaijan's geopolitical position, but will also increase the revenues of the states of the region. The trade turnover between the continents is expected to increase by $200 bn. If 10-15% of cargo is transported through the Zangezur Corridor, Azerbaijan will receive $3 bn in transit revenue a year in the near future. It also means economic dividends of peace."
