200,000 Chinese tourists to come to Azerbaijan annually

March 1, Fineko/abc.az. The State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture & Tourism of China signed today the Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose to facilitate group trips of Chinese tourists to Azerbaijan.

The Agency reports that the document was signed by STA chair Fuad Nagiyev and Deputy Culture & Tourism Minister Zhang Xiu of China.

"Thanks to the new agreement, the number of Chinese tourists in Azerbaijan may reach 200,000 people in the coming years. In 2018, growth of 50% will be achieved in this direction. Now we can talk about a multiple increase in the number of tourists from China to Azerbaijan," Agency’s chair said.

According to Nagiyev, China has been chosen as one of the most priority markets to attract tourists to our country. In general, there are 12 main directions. Among them are the countries of the former Soviet Union, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Azerbaijan has already opened official tourist offices in six countries, including China. In the future, four more representative offices will be opened.

The signing ceremony took place within the framework of the 7th meeting of the Azerbaijan–China Intergovernmental Commission on Trade & Economic Cooperation held in Beijing on 27 February – 1 March.
