May 7, Fineko/abc.az. As a result of the negative impact of the coronavirus on the world economic situation, including on the economy of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan may experience an economic regression.

ABC.AZ reports that the relevant statement was made by President Ilham Aliyev in an interview for Russian TV channel Mir.

The head of state recalled the measures taken to support the revival of the economy:

"We’ve mobilized important financial resources of at least $ 2 billion to help people working in the spheres most affected by the coronavirus. We have about 700,000 such citizens. Given that these people are currently deprived of a possibility to work, a significant portion of their wages are paid by the state. Also, public sector employees who are sent on forced leave are paid in full. And the number of people of this kind exceeds 900,000.

The state pays social benefits to 600,000 people belonging to the category of people with low income, including the unemployed who are employed in the informal sector. In order to prevent a sharp increase in the number of the unemployed, a decision was made this year to create 90,000 paid public jobs, and more than 80,000 families in Azerbaijan will receive targeted social assistance. This is not a complete package of socio-economic measures. We can also add tax incentives, tax holidays, certain preferential conditions in the field of utility payments and bank loans."
