Labor migrants sent more than $1.1 bn to Azerbaijan in 2020


April 16, Fineko/abc.az. According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Azerbaijani labor migrants transferred about $1.15 bn to the country in 2020.

ABC.AZ reports that this figure is 10.1% less than in 2019.

Against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic, the remittances of migrant workers in 2020 globally decreased almost by 7% to $666 bn.

As for the post-Soviet countries of Asia, the largest amount of funds transferred by labor migrants to their countries is recorded in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Labor migrants from these countries transferred home $3.3 bn and $1.9 bn in 2020. In Kyrgyzstan, this figure is $1.9 bn and in Kazakhstan only $458 million.
