Akif Gurbanov: Strain AY.4.2 is not really something new

October 21, Fineko/abc.az. Coronavirus strain AY.4.2, which is often written about as the latest mutation, is not really something new, it was identified in July.

ABC.AZ reports that this was informed by Akif Gurbanov, deputy director for scientific work of the Prevention Research Institute of the Association for the Management of Medical Territorial Divisions (TABIB).

He added that this strain is called "delta plus".

"The main feature of this variant is that it is susceptible to double mutation, spreads faster and demonstrates a certain resistance to antibodies in the body. This type of coronavirus is most widespread in the UK, where it accounts for 6% of the total number of cases of infection.
