Putin denies claims about Russia's imperial ambitions

February 22, Fineko/abc.az. President Ilham Aliyev, who is on a visit to Moscow, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

ABC.AZ reports that the heads of state discussed the Ukrainian issue.

President Putin has denied speculation about the restoration of the Russian Empire.

He also informed Ilham Aliyev about the events in Ukraine.

"Yesterday Russia decided to recognize the sovereignty of the two people's republics of Donbass. We foresaw speculations on this topic, on the topic that Russia is going to restore the empire within the imperial borders. This is absolutely not true," he stressed.
