New president elected in Armenia

March 4, Fineko/abc.az. Vahagn Khachaturyan, a candidate from ruling party Civil Contract, Minister of High Technology Industry, was elected the new fifth president of Armenia.

ABC.AZ reports that the vote was held in the country's parliament.

The new head of state was elected in the 2nd round of voting.

71 members of Parliament voted for him.

65 votes were enough to elect the new president. Opposition factions in the Armenian parliament boycotted the presidential election. Khachatryan, born in 1959, is the fifth president of Armenia.

The inauguration of the fifth president of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturian will take place during a special session of the Parliament on 13 March at the Karen Demirchyan Sports & Concert Complex.
