Inflation in Russia reaches 17.5%

April 18, Fineko/abc.az. As of 8 April the annual inflation was 17.5%, but the situation is stabilizing.

ABC.AZ reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this at a meeting on the socio-economic situation in the country.

The president noted that the strategy of sanctions against Russia has failed.

"The calculation was to quickly shake up the financial and economic situation in our country, provoke panic in the markets, collapse of the banking system, large-scale shortage of goods in stores. Only over the past month and a half, consumer prices in Russia have increased markedly by 9.4%, and in annual terms as of 8 April, inflation was 17.5%," Putin stated.

Putin added that the West could not provoke the collapse of the banking system in Russia. The ruble exchange rate is stabilizing, returning to the levels of the beginning of the year.
