May 23, Fineko/abc.az. Senegal is ready to work on the issue of liquefied natural gas supplies to Europe.

ABC.AZ reports that Macky Sall, President of Senegal and Chairperson of the African Union, stated about this on Sunday after talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who arrived in Dakar.

"We’re ready to work over the LNG supply to the European market," Sall was quoted as saying by Reuters.

In the past decade, large oil & gas fields have been discovered on the shelf of Senegal. Their reserves are estimated at 1 bn barrels of recoverable oil and 40 trillion cubic feet of gas. Now work is underway on their development. The first substantial LNG deliveries from Senegal are scheduled for 2023.

Because of Western sanctions, Russia has begun to restrict gas supplies to EU countries. In particular, at the end of April Gazprom suspended gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. Russia stopped supplying electricity to Finland in mid–March and already gas in May.
