KfW to allocate large funds to Georgia

June 13, Fineko/abc.az. German Development Bank (KfW) will allocate 24 million euro to Georgia for the development of protected territories, Georgian parliament’s press service informs.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the foreign media that the money will be spent on expanding protected areas, as well as increasing the forest fund in Adjara.

The finances will be used to expand the territory, increase the forest fund, in particular for the conservation and reproduction of species of flora and fauna, the names of which were included in the Red Book.

"The most important are all the events that are covered in the project, as well as the fact that the Georgian side is adopting the European, and most importantly, the German experience of how to manage protected areas with such projects," said Maya Bitadze, head of the Parliamentary Committee for Environmental Protection after the signing of the agreement.

She added that today there are 94 protected territories in Georgia, which is 11.5% of Georgia’s total territory.
