May 17, Fineko/abc.az. Today, climate change creates serious consequences for different countries, hindering the development of business and the economy as a whole.
ABC.AZ reports that Minister of Ecology & Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said about this at the forum "Raising ambitions, stimulating activity: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum".
He said that by 2030, Azerbaijan will reduce emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere by 40%.
"At that, Azerbaijan is taking great measures to switch to green energy, attracting investments. As a result of the work done today, by 2030, 30% of Azerbaijan's energy supply will consist of green energy. Thanks to investments attracted by Azerbaijan in connection with the production of green energy, the construction of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants continues. Our country has great potential for transition to green energy. This potential should be used not only by the government, but also by the private sector and business organizations. Azerbaijan plays an important role in the energy supply of Europe, and the export of produced energy to Europe is also envisaged. A draft law on decarbonization is currently being prepared in Azerbaijan. The law envisages such issues as waste management of enterprises, waste minimization using new technologies. After the adoption of the law, there will be a further decrease in emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere," the minister added.
