August 5, Fineko/abc.az. The Chinese city of Wuhan is experiencing huge problems due to the unmanned taxis of tech giant Baidu. Giant traffic jams have begun to form on the roads of the megalopolis, although robotaxi is available only in a few of its districts.
ABC.AZ informs that the point is that autonomous cars do not always adapt to driving culture and often violate traffic rules.
Currently, there are about 500 robo-cars operating in Wuhan, but by the end of the year their number should grow to 1,000, and the current testing will develop into new full-featured passenger transportation service Apollo Go.
The launch of robotaxi will undermine competition and bring down transportation prices. However, market experts believe such a strategy may be a losing one and lead the new service to financial ruin. At that, taxi drivers will have to adapt to new conditions, and the government will have to develop support measures for the transportation industry.
