August 28, Fineko/abc.az. The Caspian Sea level may decrease by 6 meters by the end of the century, according to Rafig Verdiyev, Deputy Head of the Environmental Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports, citing Trend, that Verdiyev said the level of rivers flowing into the Caspian Sea has decreased over the past 30 years.

"In addition, the amount of precipitation is decreasing, evaporation is increasing, which will lead to a decrease in the Caspian Sea level. In 1979, due to the lowering of the Caspian Sea level, a project was proposed to divert northern rivers into the sea. But then the Caspian Sea level rose. Therefore, the project was postponed. However, current processes may make this project relevant again," Verdiyev added.
