Ukraine's foreign debt payments exceed $1 bn first time

September 12, Fineko/abc.az. By the end of August, Ukraine's payments on foreign public debt exceeded $1 billion for the first time.

ABC.AZ reports that of this amount, $392.4 million went to repay debts to the IMF, $266 million to the World Bank, and another $458.1 million to other external creditors, including $130 million to holders of Eurobonds linked to GDP.

Over Jan-Aug 2024, total debt payments to external creditors reached $4.6 billion against $2.8 billion for the 2023 same term. By the end of July, Ukraine's national debt increased by 2% to $155.4 billion, and $113 billion of them accounted for external debt.

Prior to that, it became known that Ukraine had launched the fifth mission to review the extended financing program with the IMF, which would allow the country to attract $1.1 billion. These finances are to be received in the autumn, despite significant payments on old debts that exceed the new tranche.
