October 7, Fineko/abc.az. For the first time in many years, the German government has approved large-scale arms exports to Türkiye, the cost of potential supplies is estimated at several hundred million euros, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Der Spiegel.
The Federal Security Council of Germany gave the green light to the supply of German weapons to Türkiye, including 100 surface-to-air missiles and torpedoes for the Turkish Navy, as well as equipment for modernization of submarines and frigates.
The list, as the magazine points out, does not specifically indicate the financial volume of the transaction, but the price of the so-called short-range RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) missile systems is likely to be about 100 million euros. The Federal Security Council also approved the delivery of 28 SeaHake-type torpedoes from the naval division of the ThyssenKrupp industrial concern for 156 million euros.
The total amount of permits issued is likely to be about 336 million euros.
This number, as the magazine emphasizes, illustrates a noticeable change in the course of the German government. In recent years, Germany has sharply reduced all arms exports to Türkiye. The German Economic Department has made it clear that in the case of Türkiye, exports will be given the green light only if they include joint projects with EU or NATO partners.
