October 9, Fineko/abc.az. Halal mark on goods sold in markets in Azerbaijan has no legal and technical basis.

ABC.AZ reports that Ilham Bayramov, the general director of the Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization (AZSTANDART), said about this at the Halal Business & Tourism Forum (AZHAB Forum) in Baku.

"Today, meat and dairy products are the main subject of certification. Today, the "halal" labeling on meat and dairy products sold in markets under the guise of "halal" has no legal and technical basis. Halal labeling on products does not mean that this product complies with the standards of the Organization for Standardization & Metrology of Islamic Countries (SMIIC). It's a long process. To do this, you must pass the appropriate accreditation. If someone does this on behalf of the representative office of the halal certification body of any country, it is illegal activity," he said.

Bayramov noted that according to the current legislation, in order to carry out activities on certification of halal products and services in the territory of Azerbaijan, it is also mandatory to obtain accreditation from the Azerbaijani Accreditation Center.
