Rainwater to be reused to replenish water resources

October 22, Fineko/abc.az. The Baku Master Plan for 2040 envisages separation of storm sewer lines and domestic sewer networks, collection and reuse of rainwater.

ABC.AZ reports that the united water supply service of large cities of Azerbaijan named the reasons for flooding the streets of Baku after heavy rains.

According to the Service, the amount of precipitation has significantly exceeded the annual norm, and there have also been problems with collectors for drainage of rainwater. Most of the pipes and drainage systems in Baku have been left over from Soviet times, some have expired their service life.

"Of course, they will gradually change. In some places, the drainage system is practically combined with wastewater collectors. The same function is being performed. The process of their separation will also be carried out over time," the Service says.

Compared with previous years, the number of houses and cottages in Baku has increased, which were often built chaotically.

"Many facilities have been built over main lines, water pipes, sewer networks, collectors. Most of the sewers are closed and filled with concrete. Work is currently underway to eliminate such negative situations," the Service notes.

To eliminate the consequences of heavy rains that exceeded the norm, everyone is working - from management to ordinary employees. The Joint Water Supply Service of Large Cities and the Regional Water Reclamation Service are working in an enhanced mode. Sometimes there is lack of equipment and manpower, and the above-mentioned problems also interfere.

"There are places where houses and restaurants have been built above the channels for water drainage, and water can no longer enter the channels. I’d also like to note that the Baku Master Plan for 2040 stipulates separation of storm sewer lines and domestic sewer networks, collection and reuse of rainwater. Work on these plans has already begun," the Service says.
